In recent years, the cinematic platformer genre is gradually becoming the top choice trend of gamers. I can mention to Forgotton Anne – a game that captivates lovers of this genre with unique storylines and eye-catching graphics. This adventure action game was launched and developed by ThroughLine Games in 2018, but so far it still attracts a large number of people.
Storyline
The story begins with the fairyland. In this world, many living things and objects are lost or forgotten. They are called Forgotling, hardworking people, working hard in this world, hoping to one day be remembered by their owners and have a chance to return to the human world. Players will play as the girl Anne with the task of maintaining order in the magical world Forgotton Realm. Her mission is to prevent a rebellion that could prevent her, her friends, and her master, Bonku, comeback to the human world.
Gameplay
Like other games of the same genre, Forgotton Anne is well cared for with gameplay focusing on the scene, puzzles and choice of answers to interact with other characters. Besides, the game has a limited appearance of interactive dialogue to lead the plot. It is up to the players to make their own decision and this will directly affect some of the scenes shortly thereafter, but it will not affect the final outcome. Therefore, the player does not have to be too pressured about his choices.
One minus point is that this game is too focused on storytelling. Therefore, the game tries to minimize any impacts that may affect this aspect. Players only have two options to answer when interacting with other NPCs and this inadvertently reduces the player’s interaction.
But in return, the puzzle part of Forgotton Anne is very interesting and brings challenges to players. It will cause you to brainstorm to solve. Just making a mistake is likely to take you a lot of time to overcome the consequences of that mistake. Moreover, the game does not allow you “reset” the puzzle to its original state, so you need to be more careful and consider more in a situation.

The developer has very cleverly integrated the roads and scenes into the context, so sometimes you accidentally skip the door in front of your eyes, or mistakenly think that the door cannot pass and lead to the wrong step. By this way, you will control Anne to run, jump or fly, unlock different areas to find the way back home.

Graphics
Despite being an adventure game, Forgotton Anne has extremely different graphics when compared to other products. With fancy 2D graphics mechanics, deep impression with hand-drawn graphics, this game makes you feel like getting lost in Studio Ghibli’s anime works with familiar colors and high detail. It is not too much to compare this game with a movie, because Forgotton Anne also brings a similar feeling about each character, about the scenery and image quality. Although Hitcents is just a small indie game studio with few members, they put a lot of enthusiasm and energy into Forgotton Anne. You can see their efforts on every frame and image of the game. Of course, the game still has some limitations and imperfections. It still has some minor design issues, but you can see that the other elements are great, from the music, the graphics, the storyline, the movement and the voiceover are all very impressive. Especially the small stories, including the side stories are imbued with humanity (sometimes very sad).
